From a genus of perennial grasses (19) of which all except one (1) are found in New Zealand.

Taller growing  grass with attractive clumps of variegated (green and white) weeping leaves. Flower stems arch to 5ft – 1.5 metres which bear silky pale green flumes which age to cream and fawn. A mature Chionochloa ‘Taupo Lights’ grows out to 70-80 cm high and 40-60 cm wide.

Easily grown in well drained soils in full sun. Frost hardy in New Zealand, moderately so in colder Northern hemisphere locations. Does like hot sheltered position.
